The receptor, for vitamin D3, known as VDR is a type of receptor for carrying out the genetic effects of active vitamin D called 1,25 dihydroxyvitamin D3 (calcitriol). Its main function is to act as a transcription factor that responds to molecules (ligands) by forming a complex with another receptor called X receptor when bound to calcitriol.
