Insurance Inspections

Autoclave Insurance InspectionsThe Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000 cover the legal obligations of owners, users and others concerned with the installation and use of pressure systems. The regulations apply to all systems that include pressure vessels and contain gas or liquefied gas at a pressure in excess of 0.5 bar above atmospheric pressure and steam at any pressure. To comply with Regulation 8, the user must ensure a Written Scheme of Examination is in place for any system with a pressure vessel containing steam or having a pressure x volume product in excess of 250 bar litres. Further, Regulation 9 requires that a competent person examine the parts of the pressure system included in the scheme of examination within the intervals specified in the scheme. The competent person will decide on the maximum interval between examinations under the Written Scheme. As a guide, earlier legislation set out maximum examination intervals for specific types of equipment. Typically, for steam plant an interval of 14 months was specified. For steam receivers the examination period was generally in the range 26 - 38 months. The examinations are usually carried out by your insurance company or other nominated competent person. ESTS can help you meet your legal obligations as an autoclave owner / user by providing experienced technicians to disassemble and prepare the equipment for its examination, carry out hydrostatic pressure tests and return the autoclave to service on completion.
