eg bake Christmas cakes for local shelter

17-02-2014

Just before Christmas the team at eg decided to respond to an appeal from a local Night Shelter by baking Christmas cakes for the shelter's guests. Our offices are situated not too far away from Jimmy's Night Shelter, (www.jimmyscambridge.org.uk) which is the only emergency accommodation provider in Cambridge. They offer a warm and welcoming environment to 20 men and women who would otherwise be forced to sleep rough or in inadequate conditions. During the winter, this provision is even more important. Jimmy's opened an appeal this year for presents for their guests in response to the large number of people who had expressed an interest in helping the shelter over Christmas. The team at eg wanted to get involved and decided to bake homemade cakes for the appeal which they delivered the Friday before Christmas. Lucy Malby, Business Development Manager at eg, says "Cake is a big deal at eg. Every Thursday we take turns making cake for the rest of the team and we sit down together to enjoy it; it's a lovely thing to do for each other. We thought baking cakes for the guests at Jimmy's would be a way of sharing a luxury that so many of us take for granted, especially at this time of year."
