How to Prepare for an MH Patient

25-05-2017

Malignant Hyperthermia is a very rare but very serious genetic condition. It is essentially a reaction to Inhaled General Anaesthesia – Isoflurane, Desflurane or Sevoflurane. Incidence in the UK is anywhere between 1:3000 and 1:15000, depending on where you take your information from. When a patient triggers into an MH Episode it is extremely important to immediately cut exposure to volatile gases and administer Dantrolene as quickly as possible. MH can result in death, however mortality rates have significantly decreased since the advent of Dantrolene.
