What emergency resuscitation equipment should you have in clinical areas?

28-09-2020

What emergency resuscitation equipment should you have in clinical areas? One of the most common things we get asked is what emergency equipment different areas should have. We often find that clinical areas ranging from hospitals to surgeries have been ill informed or not been kept up to date with current practice, leaving them woefully underequipped to deal with emergencies. This in turn leaves them in a potentially accountable and legal situation as they might not be able to render the level of care expected should an emergency occur. Whilst guidelines on this have existed for over 10 years they have not always been clear. However, the Resuscitation Council UK have recently released updated guidelines on clinical practice, training and equipment for clinical areas. These guidelines have been split into the different areas of heathcare such as acute, primary, dental and mental health care. We have placed links to these guideline documents in the resource section of our website. They can be found by clicking on the ‘Clinical governance and guidelines’ tab. The second most common thing we get asked is ‘is our checklist up to date and will the CQC be happy with it… if not can you design one for us that will be’! Being a team of experienced clinical specialists in resuscitation we are used to designing robust checklists that are fit for purpose. Therefore we have spent some time designing some generic checklists that can be downloaded Free of Charge from our website for you to use. Whilst we cannot predict every individual CQC inspectors thoughts we know that the ones who have seen these checklists are very happy that they are robust and fit for purpose!. Copies of these can be found in the resource section of our website. They can be found by clicking on the ‘Checklists – Resuscitation Trolley/Bag’ tab or by clicking on the links direct below: Hospital Resuscitation Trolley Checklist GP Surgery/Practice – Resuscitation Bag Checklist Dental Surgery/Practice – Resuscitation Bag Checklist Whilst we do not supply this equipment direct we can always put you in touch with manufacturers that will supply you with the equipment required at very reasonable prices.
